Raising seeds from scratch can be done anywhere. It doesn’t matter if you have a few square metres or a few acres.
Having the skills to turn seeds into edible plants is a pretty handy thing to know. Whether you’re looking for a productive new hobby or wanting to increase your household resilience.
Not only is raising seedlings at home much cheaper than buying store-raised ones, it is great fun. And a perfect activity for kids. It’s also great for anyone who wants to enjoy the soul-warming act of watching life spring forth from a seed. It’s truly magical.

- what to use as pots
- how to make your own seed raising mix
- working out what to sow
- seedling care
The video shows you how to start raising seeds from home with just stuff you already have to hand! There’s no need to go out and raid your local nursery.
- You can use egg cartons, milk bottles or even just scrap paper for pots.
- Seeds can be saved from plants which are already going to seed in your garden.
- Seed raising mix can be made at home from compost, leaf mould and a dash of sand.
This video shows you just how easy it is to get right into growing without stepping out of your front door!
