Healthy Honey Granola Recipe

With its natural sweetness, this honey granola recipe is a healthy alternative to sugary breakfast cereals. 

Honey is one of the most ubiquitous products in Australian homes. Most households have a jar of honey on the shelf, whether it be for eating or medicinal use.

Whether from your own hive or from a purchased jar from the local markets, adding honey to your diet in moderation can provide a range of benefits. 

The composition of honey is mainly sugars and water, but it also contains several vitamins and minerals, including B vitamins as well as amino acids, proteins, antioxidants and various compounds with antibacterial actions. 

Why not whip up this recipe for healthy honey granola? It’s perfect served with natural yoghurt, with milk or on its own as an on-the-go snack.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup almonds
  • 3/4 cup hazelnuts
  • 3/4 cup coconut flakes
  • 1/3 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1/3 cup sunflower seeds 
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Method:

Preheat oven to 160ºC. 

Pulse nuts in a food processor until about one fifth their size, add seeds and coconut and pulse only to combine before transferring to a bowl. 

In a separate bowl, mix egg white, melted butter, honey and vanilla, add to bowl and turn with a spatula ensuring the dry ingredients are well coated. 

Spread the mixture evenly onto a lined baking tray before roasting for 15 minutes until golden brown. 

Remove from oven, salt the top, and allow to cool completely. 

Break into a granola-like consistency and store in an airtight container.
