Give some scrap fabric a new lease on life and repurpose it with our “how to make a scrunchie” guide.
You will need:
- 1 piece of elastic 14cm long
- 1 piece of material approximately 14cm x 45cm
- 1 safety pin
- Scissors
- Sewing machine or needle
- Thread
How to make a scrunchie
Cut the material to size. This size can vary slightly depending on the amount of folds you want and how big you want it. Start with these measurements, but experiment to find the perfect scrunchie for you.
Hem the ends to stop fraying (optional).
Fold the material in half lengthways, with right sides facing. Sew along the length of the material, making it into a tube.
Turn the tube of material right side out by securing the safety pin to one end and feeding it through the tube.
Attach the safety pin to the end of the elastic and feed it through the tube.
Hold two ends of the elastic together and tie in a knot.
Pull the material over the knot so the elastic isn’t showing and straighten the material so it is flat.
Sew the ends of the material together to hold it all in place.
Tie your hair in your favourite hairstyle and get your scrunchie on.
